FRIDAY DEC 14 PERFORMANCE: PAJAMA NIGHT! Wear your pajamas to the performance, and you’ll get entered for a goofy prize, direct from our production of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians! 🎅🏼❤️👽
Heather says: "This is not a new concept. There is a quirky theater outside of LA that does this show every year and it sells out by Halloween. We know we are not LA, but boy do the Akers love cheesy camp. Someone said on Instagram that they hope the play is better than the movie and I am here to tell you…it’s NOT and we couldn’t be more happy about that. With a little bit of a contemporary adaptation and a dash of MST 3k, we think this will be a silly, family-friendly way to celebrate your holidays. When the stress of it all is weighing on your soul, what could be better than little kids in Martian make up?"
Richie says: "Let's be clear, this is going to be FUN! We are taking a holiday movie that is awesomely terrible, and making it one of the best family holiday shows you'll experience in your entire life. EVER. (Yes, this is really happening.)"
Regularly appears on lists of the worst films ever made, and is regularly featured in the "bottom 100" list on the Internet Movie Database.
Was featured in an episode of the 1986 syndicated series, the Canned Film Festival.
The film took on newfound fame in the 1990s after being featured on an episode of the comedy series Mystery Science Theater 3000.
We are beyond grateful this year, and so glad to be together with our family- and extended families that we see on the weekends. This is a little different message though... We could use your support. Our first 4 years in business, we have relied almost entirely on ticket and concessions sales to keep our doors open, and prices consistent. Making theater could be cheap, but we have made the choice to produce really good shows in a really good location, which honestly makes the expenses add up fast.
We are hoping to keep Giving Tree focused on our mission: GREAT STORIES, BIG HEART. We don't have large corporate sponsorships, or rent-free space, and we are looking to people like you to be our champions. To keep our doors open, our lights on, and our focus on giving back to the community.
Since learning about Giving Tree Theater, many of you have asked us how you can help us make your cozy little Uptown theater a longterm success that will be around for a long time. We've been hesitant and measured about asking for help, but this is one way you can help us out.
We have new "high tech" fancy gift cards coming in soon, and would love to be thought of as one of the best gifts you can give your loved ones. We also have a limited remaining number of CSA (Community Supported Arts) Memberships that make a fantastic easy-to-use gift. Sign up online, and then you, or your loved one will simply see shows whenever they would like. It really is that simple!
We hope you'll give our gift cards, see our shows, and donate if you can - consider helping us so that we can continue to make some of the best theater in the region, in the most unique theater in the region, with the goofiest business model of just about any theater anywhere. Thank you.
We are (and have been since we opened, but didn't say much about it) a "Sponsored Project" of the national arts organization Fractured Atlas. They reviewed our mission and project plan, and then their board approved us to be a worthy project for their sponsorship program. This means donations made to Fractured Atlas in Giving Tree's name can be fully tax deductible.
